Because that is what I do these days. I don’t even understand this quote Stephen gave to Nylon magazine, but I love it:
The thing about vampirism is that it taps into a female point of view – you have an old-fashioned gentleman with manners who is a fucking killer… it’s an interesting duality, because in our present society it would be an odd thing for a woman to say, ‘I want my man to be physical with me.’ How, as a modern man, can you fucking work that? It’s one thing to be polite and gentle… But when do you know it’s OK to crawl out of the mud and rape her [as Bill does in one scene]?… It’s difficult stuff for a bloke, but a vampire gets away with it…. I think that’s the attraction of the show – it’s looking back at a romantic time when men were men, but they were still charming.
SERIOUSLY, ladies? How do you subtly give your man the idea that it’s okay for him to crawl out of the mud and rape you? WHAT IS THE SAFE WORD THERE?
Hey do you guys remember that SNL sketch where it was a swingers party and they all wanted to try rough sex but they spent the entire party trying to come up with the perfect safe word? That was pretty fucking hilarious.
Anyway, I’d just be all like, “Baby, I want you to be rough with me tonight. Start out under some mud, see where it takes you.”
OMG SO TRUE!!!! i think those words captured exactly why women (maybe just me..) are so into vampires. and i’ve seen that scene where he climbs out of the mud and just rapes her, and it is SOOO HOT!! i’m not saying that rape is okay at all, but that kind of masculinity only from my boyfriend is beyond hot.
Couldn’t you at least include one of the photos of Anna Paquin naked fron True Blood in your story? I know other websites are running the same photo above you did but it is boring as old hell.
It’s the photo from the Nylon piece, that’s why we’re running it.
I know where it is from, and why you are running, but it still boring as old hell.
Money not well spent ;)
I’ll always love him because he gives those twee Twilight guys grief. He has an interesting idea, and it does make sense as to why women are so taken with the vampire idolatry but there is still a somewhat uncomfortable feeling about it.
Love the dress!
Dude… the sex in that scene may be rough but I wouldn’t consider it rape. It was a surprise to her when he was pulling her down but once she realized it was him she was pretty into it. It’s the hottest sex scene I’ve ever seen though haha
i agree. i didn’t figure it as rape at all.
What show/film are you talking about?
That graveyard sex scene was so hot I couldn’t believe it. I don’t think “rape” is the right word – it was consensual, but definitely on the rough side. I love it when you post about Anna and Stephen because they are totally my celeb couple crush.
I love that tidbit from Stephen, “when men were men”. Just thinking about the graveyard scene gives me a rush. There’s no more adorable couple or hotter man then Stephen out there.
I’m agreeing – there’s no way the graveyard scene was rape. Rough, yes. Intense, yes. But there’s no way she was crying “stop” at that one.
Hmm. Dirty.
I didn’t care for all the unnecessary f word ranting. Bill would never have said that!
I don’t watch this show. I hope what the others said is correct- that the sex scene depicted was consensual. For the record, and any potential rapists out there, Rape is not Hot. Rape is a crime. Rapists should be shown zero tolerance.
The graveyard scene was NOT rape. If you thought that you apparently need to watch it again.
There are a lot of women with chips on their shoulders that see evil men and “rape” everywhere. This website is filled with them.
bleh: moyer is the one who called it rape.
Here’s what’s crazy: The guy who is on the show said the scene is rape. If he’s the one in the scene then in his mind he played the scene as though it were rape. So for those who watched and think it was not a portrayal of rape 1) his acting isn’t quite as on point as he thinks or 2) the actress in the scene reacted in a way that made the scene not appear to be rape. (because many of you who watched it thought it was consentual) I find this whole aspect of the story even more interesting than the point he was trying to make in the quote.
WORD. A spot-on comment there, daniwho.
Um “no” is a good safe word
misssmilla: the idea of a safe word comes from the fact that “no” is part of the game.
Oh, if only more men were actual, real, manly men. He has an excellent point. I love that True Blood brings to light men of a different age, mentality, and era. It’s refreshing to see something other than popped-collar douchebags who only give a shit about their H2. Men have become so emasculated these days, that’s it’s very difficult to find one who can actually fell a tree, chop it up, and then cook me an animal which he hunted down himself. These vampires represent that old way of life which seems to have been lost, unfortunately.
That being said, I’d take Bill popping out of the dirty cemetery ground to fuck me anyday. After he “called on me” of course. :)
And I didn’t view the scene as rape at all. They had had consensual sex before, and she was just surprised, I think. Pleasantly surprised.
haha “it’s not rape if you yell ‘surprise!!'”
Hahaha. Indeed. :) “HAPPY RAPE!!!”
And you know what I mean. He’s her boyfriend. She didn’t say no! Seemed to me like she enjoyed it…
someone tell me what season and episodes these scenes were, because i want to see what we’re talking about – not to mention watch some hot vampire sex!
if it’s okay with the woman then it’s not rape. complete contradiction.
She was afraid he was dead and he was hiding in the cemetery to keep from being killed and she was looking for him there and they found each other and blammo. You have to put the scene into context…
Season 1, Episode 8 “Fourth Man in the Fire”
Sookie thinks Bill is dead after a vamp house is torched by angry rednecks. She goes to the cemetery to place flowers on Bill’s grave – the one erected for him when he didn’t return from the Civil War – and as she’s leaving a hand shoots out of the ground and grabs her ankle. She definitely fights at first because she has no idea who is grabbing her or why. Bill crawls naked out of the earth and says her name, Sookie pushes the hair out of his eyes to see him more clearly, then they go to town. It’s an incredibly hot scene, and IMO definitely not rape. She does ask him not to bite her neck (she’s been getting a lot of grief from the townsfolk about sleeping with a vampire), so he bites her…elsewhere.
Love Stephen Moyer…but, true..It’s not rape..when she’s all, grabbing and kissing ,moaning ect..Didn’t he say.”Now?” and then silly Sookie, say’s,”Not the neck!”…There ya go…She was all into it….But, the southern ..well mannered gentleman…is all good….then mix it with the rough kinda nasty vampire….And there’s our “Bill Compton!!!” Perfect!
