I don’t know if everyone will remember Karen Mulder but in the early nineties (bottom picture) she was a pretty well-known (super?)model who did a lot of runway and Victoria’s Secret print work. In the late part of that decade, she suffered from some serious mental issues in which she accused her father of sexually molesting her and Prince Albert of Monaco of using her as a sex slave. She was admitted to a mental health clinic for several months, emerged, and recanted most of her earlier allegations.
I don’t really know what she’s been up to for the past ten years — the shelf life of a model is about the same as for a head of cabbage — but apparently one thing that’s been filling her days is plastic surgery. Mulder was arrested on Monday for repeated verbal telephone assaults she allegedly made towards her plastic surgeon. The model wanted an “unnamed procedure” (AKA boob job regret) reversed, but the female doctor refused her requests. According to police, Karen’s calls became increasingly threatening in nature.
Karen, Karen, Karen. You cannot go around threatening your surgeon because she didn’t remodel your deviated septum to your liking. And by “deviated septum” I mean “D cups.” But, if you insist on being some sort of crazy stalker, hot mess type, could you please throw a threat or two in the direction of Kellie Pickler’s doc?
Thanks Evil Beet! I do remember this model – and she was quite cute way back when …but I had NO idea that Karen had turned so….sour….luckily for the rest of us – we had to rely on brains, not beauty to get by in this wacky world.

I loved Karen Mulder! The story I read about this situation is that she accused the head of Elite Paris, Gerald Marie, of essentially pimping her out and charging money for people to have sex with her. Marie has a history of this, as detailed in the book ‘The Ugly Business of Beautiful People.’
@momster: models do have brains. That is such a tired old stereotype. Do you think Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Lily Donaldson, Gemma Ward et al. would be where they are if they had no brains?
Oh silly ddelux….my point was not that they might not have brains…my fault for not being more articulate. Those in this world who are blessed with wonderful bone structure are given chances that the rest of us are not. It’s what they do with their ‘luck’ later in life that separates the wheat from the chaff.
And I do not think that any of them would be where they are if they only had brains and not beauty. We live in a world where we seem to reward beauty above all else…except for maybe talent. when the world makes scientists and teachers into rock stars – you’d have a better argument.

I also support Karen Mulder! Gerald Marie has been FILMED offering underage models for sex and bragging about how many models in Elite Model competition (average age 15!!!!!!!) he was going to sleep with.
I don’t know how many of accusation were exaggerated, but I am quite sure she was sexually assaulted more than once while working as a model, and these poor women have noone they can turn to without fear of losing their careers and livelihood. She strated modeling when she was 15! She was a child exploited as a sexual object in both pictures and in life. We throw a fit about Miley but never about the nameless models that are exploited in advertisements.
And why does everyone doubt her rape accusations against the Prince of Monaco? She dated him for a short time, and rape by partners is very common and underreported.
This exploitation becomes even more disgusting when one considered the many young models from poor countries (like the many from former Soviet bloc countries) that have little English and are the sole earners supporting their families. What can they do? Who can they turn to? Who supports them?

I once kept a head of cabbage, unspoiled, in my vegetable crisper for TWO MONTHS. Those things last forever. It’s right up there with whole wheat bread in when it comes to terrifyingly long shelf lives.
