“Chaz is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support. I respect the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny, and although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding. The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child.”
Cher, in a People interview where she voices support for her child Chaz (Chastity) as he goes through the journey of gender reassignment. I’m especially impressed by Cher’s ability to avoid using any personal pronouns in her statement.
Also, make sure you catch this great article on sister site Zelda Lily in which Beet asks a stellar question: How could the public not have interest in a reality show focused on a celebrity undergoing a sex change but The Hills has found a place on the prime-time lineup for six years?
If I wanted to be on Zelda Lily I would be on Zelda Lily.
My thoughts exactly.
for a minute there i thought this was octomom! LOL
ME TOO! I actually came on here just to comment that.
How many Octomom lookalikes can you name?
1. Angelina Jolie
2. Cher
3. Oksana Grigorieva
4. Nadya Suleman
Who provided the original model for this face? Cher is the oldest, but Angelina’s is the least cosmetically retouched.
How many more women are going to end up with this face? Lots, I’m afraid, now that there are so many versions of it appearing in the tabloids. So we have quadruplets so far.
So….back on topic…Cher is a class act. It has to be difficult wrapping your brain around one of your children having sexual re-assignment surgery. I wish Cher and Chaz love and strength.
Cher’s son, Elijah Blue, is not a part of this equation at all. I wonder how he’s handling going from having a sister to having a brother.
I will never understand this, but that’s because I don’t have this issue. I don’t begrudge people their choices in this, because I will never understand it first hand. I wish him/her luck and hope this makes him happy.
just to remind everyone that Chastity is still a female. Referring to her as a he and Chaz is a bit premature.
I think that’s debatable. Chaz may still have female physical features, but feels himself to have always been a male in the wrong body.
Oh my goodness, is this what America is coming to??
She is a girl for now. After the surgery she will just be a she-male. I don’t care what she ‘feels’ like on the inside, if gender was meant to be debatable we wouldn’t be born with an assigned one.
(And don’t mention freaks of nature hermaphrodites or crap like that in response).
I have a problem with this kind of argument. If a child was born without arms, but surgery could give him arms, would you be against that too? It’s completely changing what he was “assigned with” when he was born.
She needs some bangs.
No personal pronouns? Pronouns don’t come any more personal than the word “I”.
Is your sarcasm detector switched to on?
lol., thanks I needed the explanation!
