Prop 8 Decision Expected on Tuesday!

The California Supreme Court announced today that it will rule on Tuesday regarding whether they’ll overturn the hateful Proposition 8 and allow same-sex couples to legally wed in California. If it follows past practice, the court will make its announcement at about 10 AM Pacific
Time (1 PM, Eastern / 12 noon Central).

There will be rallies ALL OVER THE COUNTRY and internationally — we will either celebrate if the court overturns the ruling, or peacefully protest if they do not.

Click here for the location of the rally near you.

I will personally be at the Seattle rally at the Westlake Center. I hope you’ll all attend the rallies in your area. We must make sure that our voices are HEARD loud and clear — discrimination can NOT be tolerated in this country!!!

  • Why should the voices of those in the State of Washington be heard in regards to a law in the State of California?

      • Perhaps Washingtonians might give a shit about the equal rights of Californians. Have you never attended a rally supporting the rights of other people? It’s generally known as solidarity.

  • I guess Democracy truly is dead. Their are fewer more liberal states than California, and yet it passed Prop 8 by a comfortable margin.

Every state that has had a vote of the people has defined marriage as between one adult man and one unrelated adult woman.

Just for once, I would love to see activists take the will of the people into consideration, and work to change people’s minds instead of counting on activist judges to overrule the will of the people.

But, hey, I live in Texas and we already spoke loud and clear on this subject. California really isn’t any of my concern.

    • My best friend and I were talking about this today. As strongly as she feels about Prop 8, my best friend (also a Texan, like me) feels the way you do. And, oh god, I hate talking to her about it. But: As a recently-displaced San Franciscan, I don’t think it should have been put to a vote after the ruling. And given my best friend’s suspicion of (state) government’s lordship over the people, she thinks it never should have been a CA supreme court decision. So, there’s all that.

Outside of that, she is comfortable acknowledging that California is culturally different from Texas — we have the same discussion constantly when it comes to gun liberties — and we do agree that it is a state decision, one that no one outside of California deserves a say in. But obviously we feel oppositely about how we think this whole thing should have gone down.

  • The Bible clearly states for men to marry women, not same sex marriages. Gay marriages are gross and SIN! And it’s a sin to support gay marriages, gay people shouldn’t be discrimiated but shouldn’t be allowed to marry, either.

  • I think it is absurd that courts may go against the will of the people in the state of California. The days of our country being a democracy are numbered.

  • I think some people need to recognize that a democracy is not simply in place to guarantee the will of the majority but also to protect the rights of the minority when they are being mistreated and overrun by the majority. If this were not true, slavery would still be legal and white and blacks would still not be able to marry in California. Sometimes though the majority is greater in number, they are not always right in their beliefs (remember the beginning of the Iraqi war?)

In addition, nothing in a democracy or in the constitution states that issuing individual rights is a subject to be voted upon. You don’t get to vote on who’s going to be treated equally and whose not. This should never have been voted on in the first place.

sometimes i wish people would recognize that america and everything it stands for is not just for you. the rights and freedoms it guarantees is not just for white, straight, male christians. You can’t stand there and say “well, I got all my rights so why should I care if the guy next door doesn’t?” and then vote to remove his rights…america doesn’t work that way….minorities deserve the same jobs as whites, jews and muslims deserve the same recognition as christians, women deserve the same pay as men, homosexuals deserve the same marital acknowledgements as heterosexuals

and win or lose tuesday, as of september, there will be 5 states that will have legalized gay marriage, it’s going to happen everywhere sooner or later, hope you’re ready.

    • I think the whole marriage issue should be taken completely out of the government. The only thing the state issues is a civil union certificate and the term marriage can then go back to the original owners religions. A civil union affords all the same rights to all people. When it comes down to a legal issues a marriage is nothing more than a lifelong contract between two people.

So I say give marriage back to religion and the state marries no one! Problem solved!

    • Giving a retard like you the right to post your dumb views freely I think should be illegal and punishable to the fullest extent of the law, but hey, we gave you that right, now didn’t we? Maybe you should think about other people’s rights now.

      • I’m glad that the CA Supreme Court upheld the law. Now the Gays can’t be married like my Wife and I.

      • Sorry to tell ya, but 18,000 Californian gays are married just like you and your wife. And its only a matter of time before we win completely. We’re taking over your planet, run, save yourselves before its too late! Before you know it, you’ll be watching project runway and bitching about the color schemes!

        MWUAHAHAHAHAHA!
