Singer Natalie Cole has been one sick puppy. After being diagnosed with Hepatitis C which was likely caused by her years of drug abuse, Cole underwent chemotherapy which caused kidney damage severe enough to warrant a transplant. Since then, she had been receiving dialysis three times a week while she waited for a donor match.
Natalie’s summer tour which was scheduled to begin June 5th has been postponed for the best possible reason. Though many people offered up a kidney after Cole appeared on Larry King Live, she actually found one through One Legacy which is an organ-procurement agency. She had her transplant and is now recovering.
Congratulations to Natalie! I can’t say it enough — Be an organ donor!
“Congratulations to Natalie! I can’t say it enough — Be an organ donor!”
Or you could say….don’t do drugs….
and you could also add that thank goodness she was able to afford her new kidney that was donated by someone and that others who have natural failing kidneys cannot afford new ones but will die or live that way half their lives instead and someone like her was able to buy one.
I”m all for life here. And I dont want to be judgemental and assume that she isnt going to be the pinnacle of health now…but who are we kidding? She’s probably drinking and doing some kind of drug RIGHT now. And lil Bobby & Mrs. Jessop sit there waiting to have one donated because they cant even afford mac & cheese.
Rant over.
Jamie- I”m withcha!
I cannot agree with you more. People who get kidney disease without drinking/drugs have to wait on dialysis while Natalie buys herself a new kidney and doesn’t do things by the rules. It makes me so mad!
> likely caused by her years of drug abuse,
Yes, donate your organs so some rich former junkie can keep on living while some poor person who could not afford the operation dies.
I think it’s great that all this attention is being given to organ donation and transplantation. As a kidney transplant recipient, I feel very strongly about this.
And yes, be an organ donor, please! The statistics about those waiting for organs and those who die waiting for organs is shocking and sad. We need to shorten or better yet eliminate the wait for organs.
Organ donor, Yes! But look at those legs!!! Those are some great gams baby!
I am an organ donor, though reading this makes me wish I could specify that my organs go to someone whose illness is not something they caused with their own bad choices and bad habits, or can afford to hype themselves on TV and/or buy my organs. This is not the most heartwarming organ donation story I’ve ever come across.
you get hep c from a virus, it is not caused by “years” of anything. yes, she was a total junkie, and yes that’s probably how she came in contact with the virus, but it just seems like a weird way to put it.
I heart Natalie Cole and her fam, but I wish that she wouldn’t have trashed Amy Winehouse recently. She, of all people should understand how difficult addiction can be.
