Phil Spector Convicted of Second-Degree Murder

The jury was deadlocked in his original trial, but today the re-trial of Phil Spector resulted in a guilty verdict for the 2003 shooting death of cult-movie star Lana Clarkson. Like last time, the Spector defense argued that Lana shot herself, but a jury disagreed. At this trial, unlike last time, jurors had the option of convicting Spector of a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter. They not only didn’t take the option, they also convicted the former hitmaker of using a gun while committing a crime. Spector showed no emotion as he was taken into custody, although his wife sobbed. (His first wife testified against him, saying she was treated as a captive during their marriage.)

Phil Spector has a long and distinguished history of using threats of violence against women. This is a long time in coming, and I hope he rots in jail.

  • I am with you on this one, Beet. This gun-wielding lunatic has always been a menace, imho, and he’s finally gone and killed someone this time. Throw away the key.

    Team Ronnie Spector.

  • Some women just need a good beating when their head gets too big.

    Beet… I think you’re about due.

  • Um, this might be a dumb question, but who is he? When was he well known for whatever it is that he does?

    • He is a pretty big record producer who I believe worked on the “Imagine” album and “You’ve Lost that Loving Feelin” by the Righteous Brothers which he also co-wrote among other albums/songs.

      • Thanks Rachel!
I guess it makes sense that I don’t know who he is, as I am only 18, and until the age of seven thought the only two genres of music were country and Alvin and the Chipmunks :)

      • Haha, no problem. I didn’t know who he was until the trial hoopla began and was surprised that he had done tons of well known projects.

      • Spector also invented the recording method known as the ‘Wall Of Sound’; it’s a little in depth to post here, but if you Google or Wiki it, there’s an abundance of information on the topic.

The WOS method has been used for decades, and The Beatles were one of the first groups to use the concept (if I’m remembering correctly), much to the dismay of Paul McCartney, who fought for the re-release of the album they used to WOS for. McCartney was was rumored to have hated the way the original album sounded, prompting it’s re-release as a ‘naked’ sound.

    Spot on, Beet. Spot on.

    Jury’s don’t come to these conclusions on a whim……

  • I am happy that Lana’s family and friends get some relief and a resolution to losing her. This man was dangerous for years, this was bound to happen it’s just so sad it was her. I hope where ever she is, she’s feeling some peace about this.

He will appeal and has the money to do so.

  • I don’t understand how women can date guys who have treated women badly in the past. What’s the rational? “Well, he treated that woman like shit, but I’m much better than her, so it won’t happen to me?” Come on babe. The 2nd wife needs to grow a pair and leave him.

  • That circle on his tie, is that where the sniper is prepping to aim and shoot him? Get em sniper!!

  • He should rot in hell with Chris Brown and OJ. What is with juries that can’t get past the fame angle and see a criminal act for what it is? Where is their common sense?

  • i’m from alhambra, and phil spector lives in a “castle” on top of the hill here. me and my friends visited his house once, and there was this GIANGANTO gate and a few cameras. and on the gate was a sign saying “do not trespass” something something.. it was freaky
