Serena Williams Serves Up A Healthy Body Image

serenawilliams-1

Here’s a picture of Serena Williams and her friends catching some rays, or really hiding from rays, this weekend in Miami.  Her legs are like mighty sequoias.  No kidding, total muscle.  And speaking of being crafted of wood, doesn’t her hand look like it belongs to a mannequin?

But Serena isn’t really the bitch I want to talk about.  I want to talk about the little white fur ball perched at the end of her chaise lounge.  Uh, what breed of dog is that?  Because I need one.  I’m not a people dog person at all, which is a little ironic since I work for the biggest dog lover of all time.  But I’m in worship with this one.  He/she has melted the ice chambers of my heart.  I’m seriously willing to trade in all one of my kids to get one.

  • It’s a Coton de Tulear. It’s in the same family as Bischon, but they’re softer. My boyfriends dad has one, and my boyfriend and I are getting one soon. Theyre amazing dogs. Really smart.

  • My sister got a dog from a kennel and they told her was a maltese but come to find out it was a Bichon/Maltese mix. It’s adorable though, and looks exactly like this dog

  • It is the Coton. They don’t shed and are the national dog of Madagascar, brought in by the French. They are great with children. And what little girl doesn’t like a little, white fluffy puppy.

  • Wendie–

I am a professional dog groomer. That is NOT a French Coton, nor is it a Bichon Frise. That is a Maltese dog, and while they are awfully cute as puppies, they do have several problems. They do not age well- they are prone to skin issues, rotting teeth, luxating patellas, bad spines, and little shit head temperments. They are a popular dog, so a lot of inferior, unhealthy puppies have been created from inbred breeding stock. Make sure that you go to a REPUTABLE breeder for one of these dogs. Expect to pay $1,000 for a healthy puppy.

    • Since you’re a professional groomer, I have a question… how often should Cotons get a hair cut? Thanks!

      • Hi Steph!

I would recommend that you have your Coton professionally groomed approximately every 4-6 weeks. They can potentially go more like 8-10 weeks if you are consistently brushing out their coat, but often times the mats just build up in the undercoat and have to be removed or detangled by a pro… we have all kinds of sprays and conditioners to help with it!

  • Wendie, before I even started reading your post, I was cooing over the little puppy. What a cutie!
I’ve been itching for one ever since we moved from apartment life into our own home 3+ years ago, and it still hasn’t happened! I need to get on my husband’s ass about it….

  • looks like a maltese pup – so adorable! as for serena, i think she looks awesome. i have never seen her play but i did see her sister venus play in the US open and i have to say i was impressed – there is no fat anywhere on venus, and probably none on serena either!

  • I’d rather be fat than that muscular. I don’t know why exactly, but it totally creeps me out.

  • definitely maltese.
and who cares if her thighs are big?
i’d rather have those damn muscular legs
    than cottage cheese thighs!

    • Agree, Sam.

And thank you everyone. Maltese it is. Though I can’t imagine paying 1k for any dog…But I do love him/her.

    • I’d rather have fat cottage cheese thighs. That much muscle creeps me out so much. Like if I look at body building women, I just CRINGE. I’d rather have a plump, curvy body… or a thin body… or seriously any other body type than this. She is scary and mannish.

  • While most of the world’s elite tennis players are grinding through the dry heat of the desert in Indian Wells, an event the sisters have boycotted since 2001 after some alleged ugly incidents, they sleep in their own beds, eat familiar food and frolic with their three dogs — Harold the Havanese, Lorelei the Maltese and a Jack Russell Terrier named, well, Jack.

  • Venus has a Havanese named Harold. Serena has a Maltese named Lorelei and a Jack Russell Terrier named Jack.

  • Maltese are really great dogs, contrary to one of the previous posts. I had two- one of them lived to almost 17 years old! They are smart, loving, amazing little guys.
