They key word being shitty, i thought folks would be able to distinguish and didn’t think it was necessary to go further. Carrie Bradshaw has no business being on such a narrow list… Maybe if it was like out of 100 women I could see it. There are so many strong female icons that would be more suited for this list than her.

Madonna is pretty much the only one i would call an icon of the 80’s.
Last i checked Moore, Hepburn, Huerta, Holiday, Earhart and rosie were all icons well before the that time, while Obama and Chastain were after.

I guess it’s because in this celebrity-obsessed society, flash always wins over substance. Most people don’t even know who Alice Paul is, but Carrie Bradshaw? Sure – she’s that shallow, self-absorbed shoe fanatic who ploughed through men like a hooker with a BOGO special! What’d Alice Paul do, anyway?
