Hey, you know that dude who’s selling the phone number 201-867-5309? And thought he might get around $50K for it?
Bids are now passing $350K.
“It’s a little more than ’80s fanatics,” said the seller, a 27-year-old DJ. “It’s a lot of mid-size or larger corporations looking to get more brand awareness.”
So, ya know, as your ass is pounding the pavement right now begging for any job at all, some DJ in New Jersey is probably going to make himself half a million dollars for owning the phone number from a Tommy Tutone song.
Feels good, doesn’t it?
Just a quick question – how do you OWN a phone number? Doesn’t it belong to the phone company? Or can you take out a copywrite or license or whatever it’s called?
You can transfer service for a number from one person to another.
At least Uncle Sam / State of New Jersey should get their 40% cut of a large sum like that.
wow…6hrs. to go…438K
someone’s going to regret that purchase at 3 in the morning when some idiot calls like, “uh…is jenny there?”
Uh, bidders do realize that this number exists, potentially, in every area code?
Not here. We don’t have the 867 prefix. But there are definitely more in other places.
True, but there are an awful lot of corporations who have their central offices located in New Jersey.
So. Now we see bids in the half a million dollar range -for a New Jersey phone number.
All the Jersey haters can SUCK IT!
LOL
I bet Tommy Tutone is rolling over in his grave for not coming up with this idea first… even though he’s still alive.
ROFL!!!
can someone explain whats so special about the service number?
thanks mate.
