I once saw Suze Orman lecture live, at a women’s event in California. She was very loud and sometimes condescing, and, on occasion, saying things I disagreed with, but, all in all, this is sound financial advice for the average woman.
And now she’s giving it away for free.
The entirety of her new book, Suze Orman’s 2009 Action Plan, is available on Oprah’s site, for free download.
I have now completed my reading of page one, and I already want to smack Suze Orman up-side the head but only after (and before) I vomit.
In the first paragraph of the book she talks to me like I’m an idiot.
And then the rest of the book she uses words that I don’t know.
This woman’s appeal eludes me. But it’s nice, I guess, that she’s trying to make this financial world palatable for women. We’re such fragile silly creatures who can’t possibly be expected, as adults, to know how to manage our finances responsibly. Actually, I think I’ve nailed it. I think this is why Suze Orman bothers me. Because she speaks to these adult women who haven’t a clue about how to make a financially responsible decision. And maybe what I’m angry at is the education system that handed high-school diplomas to these now-adult 18-year-olds with absolutely no grasp on the credit markets in the U.S. economy or how one should best save and invest their money. Like, would it be okay if our high schools replaced the section on the literature of the Middle Ages with, say, this stuff? Because, like, yes, it’s important to have a broad liberal arts education, but it’s also important to, ya know, have a populace who can side-step things like the enormous La Brea Tar Pit of our current economy.
Anyway.
Book’s worth a read. Some good stuff in there. And it’s free.
Don’t worry, though, she’ll be doing speaking engagements all over the country after this, and those won’t be quite so free.
I cannot fucking stand this woman. And I totally agree with the description of her as being condesending.
SHe was one on an episode of Oprah about people in financial crisis due the issue with getting into houses/mortgages they ouldn’t afford with the help of sub-prime mortgages. In most cases, tho not all, these people created their own problems through their own stupidity and greed for things they can’t afford. I do have sympathy for their feelings however, as losing the roof over your head is a horrifying prospect – in this economy – regardless of the reasons behind it.
This bitch Suze ripped a new asshole for ths coupple who agreed to appear to recieve “Her Help”. She all but castrated the husband.
FUCK YOU SUZE.
If hes the one contributing to the problem, he needs to get it into his head to not be stupid with his money. Simple, if Suzie were to baby talk him, he wouldn’t get it into his miniscule brain to stop the cycle.
Suzies approach may be aggressive, and annoying at times but she does have a point. I know people in my life who are also stupid with their money and they come begging family members to donate to them or provide shelter for them. Had they been ‘responsible’ they wouldn’t be asking Suzie for help.
Dumbing down her approach doesn’t solve ANYTHING either. People need to make an effort on how to control their spending especially in a time like this where the economy is basically in the shitter.
Does she tell me where I can get those jackets? That’s all I really need to know.
She should be teaching the men of the world how NOT to cheat and swindle others.
I can’t stand her a lot of the time but in her defense, I think some people are so incredibly stupid and clueless they need her attitude to make it sink in. These morons are in such denial about their money problems and think that if they lie to themselves or refuse to acknowledge them, they don’t exist. Sometimes it takes a condescneding bitch to make you pay attention and get your shit together. Did you see the ACCOUNTANT on Oprah who was $79,000 in debt? Dude. Much of the population so dumb when it comes to money and credit it needs to be spoken to like retarded toddlers.
Co-sign with anon. There are so many people with lots of money, but no brains that she HAS to dumb it down. Plus she came out recently, and I admire that in anyone.
I agree. I love the section in her show where people call in to ask if they can afford stuff. Some of these dumb fucks are like thousands of dollars in debt with a minimum wage income. They still have the balls to call a talk show to ask if they can put a Gucci bag on a credit card. These are the type of morons who deserve to spoken to like they’re idiots because.. let’s face it, they are. Didn’t know she came out tho. Her hair screams lesbian. Reminds me of a young Brad Pitt
Dave Ramsey’s advice is much better.
Yeah, teach it in HS, I agree.
Her appeal is her knowledge of all things financial. Something a large portion of the population is quite ignorant of.
Suze Orman is awesome & I’ll bet she clawed her way to the top. Did you ever see her girlfriend? She always has a fat smile . Yes, obnoxious, & always talking about how she has so much money, blah, blah…terrible clothes…no taste, if she wasn’t so sexy, they’d look really pathetic. But, she is hot! So leave the ol’ dyke alone, with her girlfriend in their love palace. Blessings.
