Oooh, casting drama is the best kind of drama. It’s so cut-throat and heartless!
Apparently Twilight producers still don’t think that cutie pie Taylor Lautner is right for the role of Jacob in New Moon, and it’s looking more and more likely that the role will go to 26-year-old Michael Copon, whose list of credentials include a role in Scorpion King 2 and looking vaguely ethnic. He also has a body type that I like to refer to as “douchebag buff.”
A representative for Copon says they’re making a full effort to land the high-profile gig. And the actor has even recently updated his Facebook status with messages like: “Michael Copon [is] in a Twilight Zone!” and “Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!” Wow. I hate him already. I think Taylor is adorable and I don’t think they should replace him.
Michael “Douchebag” Copon is pictured above at an event in November. I have no idea who those girls are, and neither does the photo agency. I hope they’re his sisters. Because otherwise I’m really embarrassed for him.

I think its lame to replace Taylor. he is adorable. and this guy is a total douche. and that blonde’s hair is out of control. anyways.. they need to keep Taylor. Its like in Bewitched when they replaced darren thinking no one would notice. And also in Three’s Company, when Chrissy left and they brought in that other girl. it just wasnt the same after that.

As much as I am not a fan of Michael Copon, I knew they would have to change characters. While Taylor was decent as Jacob in the first movie, if you have ever read the books Jacob goes through a complete physical transformation. He becomes more buff and he gets taller. He is much taller then Bella in the books. So if they are trying to keep accuracy with the books then the change is necessary. I wish they could find someone more appropriate than Copon, but Copon is still closer to Jacob in New Moon than Taylor could ever be. He has the boyish charm of pre werewolf Jacob.

Just sat down with two teens to talk Jacob casting and…we were all of the same opinion – Taylor is great as the pre werewolf Jacob but he’s hardly going to shoot up to 6 foot 5 overnight and buff up big time half way through New Moon…I hope they keep looking – I am sure there are First Nation men who would be perfect for the Werewolf Jacob role and given it’s very clear in the books that Jacob does undergo an incredible transformation changing actors mid film is just something we’ll have to live with.
By principle I think they should keep the original cast. But that guy looks like Taylor an awful lot! I’m not sure I’d notice that replacement all that much..
i love taylor he is soooooo perfect for the role of jacob, he has that whole native thing going and he has that miscivousness to him.
they should just use the graphics they used to make brad pitt look old in the benjamin (spelling) movie.

i agree with cate & krz…the description of jacob in the next book doesnt match with taylor….this copon guy may be a douche, but actors who really want a role sometimes do actively pursue it in douche-like ways hence the lame messages on his facebook page…i looked at other pics of this copon character (looking less douch-like than in the pic above) & he actually looks like he could possibly fit the role perfectly. as long as he can act, i wouldnt mind him taking over the part.
I liked Taylor in the first one, I think he did a great job and I don’t want to see him replaced, but I kind of understand why they want to.
But really, this guy? I don’t think he looks the part at all.

Jacob doesn’t go through his transformation right away in the book, they could probably keep the baby-face Jacob for like 30 minutes of the movie and then replace him with the werewolf douchebag buff power ranger Jacob.
I saw Twilight for the 3rd time today, and I still can’t see why people have a problem with Taylor Lautner as Jacob. He’s freaking adorable and I think he’s a brilliant actor and he IS Jacob Black.
This other guy is cute and all, but he is NOT Jacob.
I’m re-reading the books and whenever Jacob is in a scene, I picture Taylor.

He’s from Virginia Beach, VA, where I am also from and I have met him on many occasions. And have friends that know him very well and went to school with him. He’s one of the sweetest guys you’d ever meet.
Just because a studio is thinking about replacing someone you like with him, doesn’t make him a douche.

I’d rather have the continuity of actors than get all in a tizzy over Jacob not being six and a half feet tall. As long as the connection between Bella and Jacob is there I’ll be happy.

I never really liked Taylor because i thought the role of jacob should have gone to someone else… (Tyler Posey!!) and yeah i remember when douche-Copon person played on one tree hill and i too did not like him, i honestly think the casting kind of sucked over all,however i also think that its rather necessary for Taylor to be replaced because like people have said he’s not really the physical fit for new moon.

I never liked Taylor as Jacob, either. I mean, I know he had to be small for the first movie, but I don’t even think Taylor is even a little bit cute. To me, he is too girly… something Jacob is not. I think Michael Copon is BETTER as Jacob. Still too asian looking to play an American Indian, but whatever, at least he is buff.

As for the physical transformation…first of all…Taylor as already said that he is working out 5-6 days a week and cranking out on protien for the role so I’m sure he is going to have the body to play New Moon Jacob. As for the height…there is so much you can do nowadays about that issue. There is plenty of short male actors in Hollywood but when they’re on screen they magically are taller than their co stars (Tom Cruise?). So it can be done since Taylor is not the only one that has to bulk up and be taller…remember in the book Sam, Embry, Quil, Paul, Jared, etc are all HUGE too. So Taylor shouldn’t be the only one they’re worried about!!! I love Taylor as Jacob and I will not see the movie if he isn’t in it. It would be stupid to switch now. I totally agree. Why make a sequel if ur not going to keep the origional cast. It just ruins the story and doesn’t look right. They definately need to kee Taylor. If they can’t do their movie magic on him, then don’t even do the rest of the books!!

i know that during new moon jacob suffers a trememdously big change but honestly i mean they changed alot in twilight , and just because Taylor is a bit smaller wont help as a matter of fact it will mess everything up if they change jacob !
