This is why I don’t believe in karma. Kathy Cox, state Schools Superintendent was the first person to win the top prize of a million dollars on Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?  Have you ever seen this show? No one ever seems to go all the way to the million dollar questions but the lower dollar value questions that areasked seem really easy.  I’m not saying that in a “Aren’t I a genius?” sort of way. Hell, I just misspelled “genius.” And “misspelled.” And once took a Yugo for a test drive. But it’s a fairly entertaining show. Your kids can watch it and with a little effort, it’s possible to tune out host Jeff Foxworthy. So Kathy Cox wins the million this summer. She donated her entire winnings to the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, the Georgia School for the Deaf and to the Georgia Academy for the Blind. Completely generous…right? And under the theory of karma, good things happen to good people.
Now, a few months later, her husband’s construction business just failed. And this week they had to file for bankruptcy. So much for “what goes around, comes around.” Sometimes life just sucks. This story breaks my heart.Â
Kathy Cox being asked the final, million dollar question is at about the five minute mark.
if something bad happens to a good person, the theory is that in a past life they were bad
ummm…so she’s not smarter than a 5th grader? into the corner with a dunce cap right now, young lady!
yaaaaaaaaawn
Oh thats so sad, I bet she wishes she didn’t donate the money now but what she did was so generous. Something good still might happen to her. *keeps fingers crossed*
Karma doesn’t have to happen right away. It may not the person you are looking for, for good luck. Someone else might give it her and I am sure her Karma is coming her way giving her more than she gave out.
Well, I feel sorry for her. But why on earth did she donate ALL the money?! Totally misguided conception of “I’m a good person”.
The economy is kicking the arse of everyone I know right now, including myself and my household, but I have hope for Kathy that this is a case of “When one door closes, another one opens.”
I have great admiration for anyone that stays dedicated to our education system. Look at the pay rates of these people. Just agreeing to their salaries for the work they do IS like donating a million to their schools. They do it every year.
The title of this post makes no sense.
As a mother to a blind and partially deaf two-month-old, I think it’s awesome that she donated the money. But I do find myself asking “Why not to just one school?” Or why not to an actual foundation?
I do believe, thought that something amazing will come her way. It has to.
She’s not that bright for giving it ALL away.
awww i love how when she wins she hugs all the kiddies awwww so cute! poor thing! hope she gets something back!
oh god. poor thing.
who really loses here? these are two separate issues…one has nothing to do with the other even though many subscribe to the addage that no good deed goes un-punished. The economy wll recover at sosme point…in the meantime, if even one deaf child was helped with the prize winnings then karma really has nothing to do with it, agreed?
The 10 billionth proof that GOD doesn’t exist
Actually 10 billion and one. Beet’s boobs are proof of that because no God would create breasts like that and not allow us to see them uncovered.
this story makes me sad :(
and lol @ ” it’s possible to tune out host Jeff Foxworthy”
aw I actually watched the clip and now I am even more bummed out. I wish I could give her another million dollars. she obviously cared so much about her cause, and about students…..
they should let her do it again… just for being a good person.
I have a friend that won moderately big on Deal or No Deal this summer (taped in Spring, aired in July) and he has yet to see a single cent of it.
I’m sure she hasn’t seen a cent yet, and hopefully when she does, she has the sense enough to renege on her promise. Circumstances change, and anyone that holds a smaller donation against her has issues.
Poor lady.
She has a good heart, i just know things will be better for her.
She reminds me of my mum.
So Gage, what takes so long to get the money from these things?
