Millvina Dean, who was two months old when the Titanic hit an iceberg, is now 96 and struggling to pay for her care in a nursing home, so she’s auctioning off mementoes from the crash to try to make around $5000.
Personal items going under the hammer include a 100-year-old suitcase filled with clothes given to her family by the people of New York after they arrived there following the catastrophe.
Dean has lived in a nursing home for the last two years.
“I was hoping to be here for two weeks after breaking my hip but I developed an infection and have been here for two years. I am not able to live in my home any more,” she told the Southern Daily Echo newspaper.
“I am selling it all now because I have to pay these nursing home fees and am selling anything that I think might fetch some money,” she added. “The fees are quite expensive. The more money I can get from the auction the better.”

This is exactly why the U.S. healthcare system sucks! Someone this age should never have to worry about healthcare at this age. We should take care of the elderly like other countries do !!

@chels I know what you mean, its hard to find good help these days. People now days just don’t have the work ethic they used to have. I mean consider whoever wrote this post, they must have been working hard to write that good and it took a good bit of their time I am sure. I work with people who couldn’t write like this if they tried, and getting them to try is hard enough as it is.
A person that has needs to take heed as to what solution is best for them.
