So I just got off the phone with Danielle Fishel (aka Topanga) who’s the host of The Dish, the weekly fashion and entertainment wrap-up show premiering next Saturday on the Style Network.
I can’t remember ever being so excited to do an interview! I called all my girlfriends yesterday like “GUESS WHO I GET TO TALK TO TOMORROW??? TOPANGA!!!” She was my childhood idol.
Danielle was an absolute sweetheart, very gracious and open and easy to talk to, and I got a lot of fun dirt out of her but, most importantly, we spent a good deal of time discussing Katie Holmes and those peg-and-roll jeans. Danielle agrees with me — they are awful. And there you have it, folks — from the host of a show on the Style network. Peg-and-roll jeans are BAD.
My whole interview with Danielle — including the juicy (or not-so-juicy?) details about her relationship with Lance Bass (before he was openly gay) and the real scoop on her DUI — will run next week on Film.com. I’ll link you guys to it when it’s up.
She has always been so adorable
I AGREE, VERY PRETTY
Was she drunk?
Gah! Beet, girl, I love you, but you’re driving me crazy with the peg-and-roll thing! You’re such a stickler for language, why don’t you care how inaccurate that is? Pegged jeans, if you think about it, obviously were so-called because of the resemblance to a PEG. See, it’s a tapered thing; they get smaller to a point at the bottom, like a peg. So it’s painfully redundant to say “peg-and-rolled.” What the hecker do you think the peg part of peg-and-rolled means, anyway? I mean, fold-and-roll jeans, maybe. At least that describes something (even if not the commonly understood term for these things). Peg-and-roll, though, is meaningless.
I so love Topanga she’s so adorable.
Yeah, it is pegged. Way back in the eighties before you young ones were born we pegged our jeans and wore them with white keds. I actually started pegging my jeans about six months before everyone at high school did. I have an older brother who was living in Atlanta at the time and he was always ahead of us style-wise when I was living up north. It was all the rage. It was an ugly rage too. Then came parachute pants…
Actually, I am the old lady here (in years ONLY) ! We pegged our pants in th ’50’s!!! And, yes, they were called “pegged pants”. Sometimes we pegged them so much we could hardly get our foot through. Funny how styles go and then come back. 1950-1980 and now 2008, at least for Katie!
peg-and-roll is the right name. peg alone is when you fold them like that then sew it- this terrible katie holmes thing is where you fold over then roll to keep the fold, instead of sew. peg and roll. it’s okay beet, you are totally right to call it that.
I thought this was going to be a negative article about her based on that picture. Seriously, she usually looks so much better and cuter!
We always called it ‘tight-rolling’ in South Carolina….
I can’t believe you talked to Topanga! Aaaaah! :0 You should’ve asked her whatever happened to all the boys on that show-Cory, Eric, Shawn-hmmmm… ;)
We called it tight-rolled too!
