For the record, I was at Country Thunder, have gone for the past 6 years and she was booed and cheered throughout her show. However, being there first person I can say that the boos certainly outweighed the cheers…the bulk of those cheering for her were families and parents who brought their younger (between 12-16 years) daughters with to see her.
Mind you CTUSA is typically and rough and rowdy crowd, and it was very unfortunate that so many families came out to see her as the crowd was very unreceptive and pretty wild up on the hill while she performed.
Her performance had its moments, but was all in all pretty rough. She really, REALLY whined a lot about how rough her life has been rather than just perform and entertain the crowd. I totally understand she has only one “country” album out (those songs were pretty much pop with her singing with a twang) but she filled her lack of songs with constant ramblings of how devistating her love life has been…this festival is all about having fun, and I’d say 3/4 of her set was a downer with her stories. In the end, I felt like she just assumed the crowd would love her and did not take any measures to ensure she was an entertaining presence on stage.
I wish her well in the future, but also wish she had picked a different venue than a crapload of drunk folks looking to party to use as her coming-out country party.
Too bad she had to fall-back to country. For a performer it is the kiss of death. She’ll be playing fairs.
