FKA twigs says that she was left with PTSD after her split from Shia LaBeouf just a month after filing a lawsuit against the actor for ‘relentless abuse.’
The 33-year-old British singer – real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett – appeared on the Grounded With Louis Theroux podcast on Monday as she bravely detailed her relationship with the 34-year-old actor.
On December 11, 2020, she sued him for physical, mental, and emotional abuse. LaBeouf said at the time that many allegations against him are untrue, but did add that he has to ‘accept accountability for those things I have done.’
The two met in 2018 on set of his film Honey Boy as she claimed on the podcast that they had ‘an intense honeymoon period’ before things started to change.
“For me it was being nice to a waiter or being polite to somebody that could be seen as me flirting or want to engage in some sort of relationship with somebody else when I’m literally just ordering pasta and being polite.”
“I was told that I knew what he was like, and if I loved him I wouldn’t look men in the eye. So that was my reality for a good four months towards the end of the relationship, that I wasn’t allowed to look men in the eye.”
She more or less describes a really insecure man who needs constant reassurance and affection and who demands that attention and affection only be for him.
I hope she’s on firm ground now and that her words can reach someone else who might be suffering through the same abuse.
