Anne Hathaway is only 32 years old, which is still pretty young in Hollywood. She could even pass for a twentysomething, really, but she says that’s not the case, and in fact she’s already losing out on roles to actresses younger than herself… which makes sense if she’s going for characters in their early 20s.
From Glamour:
I can’t complain about it because I benefitted from it. When I was in my early twenties, parts would be written for women in their fifties and I would get them. And now I’m in my early thirties and I’m like, ‘Why did that 24 year old get that part?’ I was that 24 year old once, I can’t be upset about it, it’s the way things are. All I can do right now is think that thankfully you have built up perhaps a little bit of cachet and can tell stories that interest you and if people go to see them you’ll be allowed to make more.
Uhhhh… when the hell did Anne Hathaway get roles written for 50-year-olds? Certainly not The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada, Ella Enchanted, One Day… I mean, what’s she even talking about? I don’t for one second doubt that ageism exists in Hollywood, because it clearly does, but I mean… really? Not feeling it.
Anne offered her thoughts on Taylor Swift, because apparently we care what Anne Hathaway thinks about Taylor Swift:
She just seems to be following her heart. I met her – I hope it’s OK to say this – when she and Jake [Gyllenhaal] were together. She was 20 at the time, and we hung out one night. I was like, ‘You are a magnificent creature.’ She was on fire and I’ve watched her become this force of nature.
God, she’s boring and so try-hard. I want to like her so much, but she continues to make it so hard!
Maybe the reason you aren’t getting parts AnnE has more to do with your attitude rather than your age?
I’ve heard that she’s hard to work with.
