From CNN:
Britain’s Prince William and Catherine Middleton are expecting their first child after 19 months of marriage, the palace announced Monday.
The royal revelation came as Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was admitted to a central London hospital with acute morning sickness Monday afternoon. She is expected to be in King Edward VII Hospital for several days, the palace announcement said. William and Catherine were married on April 29, 2011, in London’s biggest royal wedding in three decades.
The baby would be the first grandchild for the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles, and the late Diana, Princess of Wales. “As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter,” the statement said.
She is not yet 12 weeks pregnant, Clarence House told CNN, so the palace is not announcing a due date for the child. Prince William is at the King Edward VII hospital with Catherine, the palace says.
The news immediately became a top trending topic worldwide on Twitter.British Prime Minister David Cameron was quick to tweet his joy: “‘I’m delighted by the news that the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. They will make wonderful parents.’#royalbaby”
British Labour Party leader Ed Miliband tweeted “Fantastic news for Kate, William and the country. A royal baby is something the whole nation will celebrate.”
Ooh, gosh, how exciting! Can you imagine how adorable a Will and Kate baby’s going to be? And Kate‘s going to be such a great mom! I can’t wait to see her bump and glow! It almost makes me want to get pregnant all over again! (Almost. Almost.)
Tickled over this news. Positively ticked, guys.
Congratulations to the new family!
Ya know, it’s been so easy over the past few decades to goof on the Royal Family as it was ridden with so much dysfunctionality, especially with the likes of Charles, Fergie, etc. However, these two are such a breath of fresh air and display so much class without being flamboyant that it makes it hard to not to like them. Thank God that William has apparently picked up more of his mom’s genes (not to be confused with mom jeans) than those of his father. I wish them the best!
Ugh can’t believe my taxes are paying for these two.
Your taxes pay for much more than this. The wonderful socially oriented infrastructure in the UK helped me get free healthcare, affordable education, and I enjoyed well maintained roads and public services throughout my almost 4 year stay in London. Gosh I miss the old country! Not the weather (haha, California rules!) but the culture and the spirit there.
I’m very happy for the royal couple! My husband and I too almost wanted to make another baby for the holidays, but then we remembered that we still haven’t recovered from the sleep deprivation and all other side effects of the first one, so we decided to wait. But I’m sure the royal baby will be supe cute and such a shame Diana isn’t here to rejoice with her first grandchild….
Uhm, I know? I know all my taxes pay for, they have paid for my education from primary school to University. I am perfectly aware. I just wish my taxes paid for people I have voted for and not people who are there just because centuries ago they won a war. I am not happy or sad about them; I just wish we could choose our very own brand of idiots like the French do, and not have them bestowed on us. I wish you luck for when you decide to go for the next baby!
It makes me nervous when people announce pregnancies early but I assume she had a scan within about an hour of conceiving!
Do people actually go into the hospital for morning sickness?
She’s got hyperemesis gravidarum, so it’s like super mega morning sickness. Women who have it often have morning sickness throughout their entire pregnancy, and later pregnancies. They just get sick SO MUCH, and it makes it really hard to eat anything, so they usually end up in the hospital because of dehydration. I’m assuming that’s why they announced the pregnancy so early too, because there’s a chance she’ll have to go to the hospital again and she’ll probably won’t be out and about that much.
I agree with toonsis….how many common women go into the hospital for such a “normal part” of being PG?
aside from what Emily posted, I suppose this may help answer your question: http://health.yahoo.net/experts/celebrityhealthminute/royal-heir-sends-kate-middleton-hospital
