“I would slap the s*** out of somebody for Gwyneth Paltrow. She’s the homie, she’s cool. Gwyneth gets a pass. Real people get a pass. We know what this s*** is. We don’t interrupt Italians when they say ‘Wop’ to each other. They gonna punch you in the mouth if you interrupt that. Don’t interrupt us. We pick and choose. … Some might not feel the same way. Some of us will get angrier about it than others; but some people get a pass. The people that I know who are cool and real n****s, Gwyneth Paltrow is a real n****, that’s my homie. That’s how I’m on it. Some people get a pass.”
So is that how this all is? Because I’m afraid I just don’t get it. Here’s a quick suggestion: how about we ALL stop saying the offending word (people of all races), and be done with it? Then no one feels insulted, excluded, faked out, shit on, oppressed, or revered. Will that work for everyone?
Whatever. Nas is a pretentious idiot anyway.
I’m gonna have to stop you there. Nas is far from an idiot and actually many black people have the same beliefs about the word. I personally don’t use it and when I hear people who are not black use it, it takes me back. I think if you’re not black accept the fact that you can’t say the word. If your black friend is cool with it, then that’s between yall but don’t get it twisted having one black friend give you a pass won’t keep you from getting your ass whooped should you get a little reckless. Call it unfair, call it a double standard- whatever. It is what it is and that’s the end.
Yeah, what Nic said. I think when it comes to the N-word we as white people have no saying. It’s Black people who get to decide whether your saying it is offensive, because it was them who have had it used as a slur. I know I can say it in front of my flatmate, who’s Black, if we are talking about racism, but this has been agreed beforehand. I don’t think it’s that hard to understand why.
Bullshit. Nas is an asshole. There are no “passes”.
Allowing black people to “own” a word, and then threaten violence if the wrong person uses it? Right. Try explaining that logic without looking ignorant.
I’ve learned that any racist crap that comes out of someone else’s mouth reflects poorly on the speaker. Once someone spouts racial rhetoric, they’ve lost any argument because they can’t come up with a better answer than to call someone names.
I’m with Nas on this one.
You mad Sarah?
Nobody cares.
If Gwyneth Paltrow (of ALL people!!!) gets a “pass”, then I question the value of getting a “pass.”
fuck this shit nigaaas!!! it’s a word get over it.
if this or any word is still powerful enough to get knickers in a twist then it is powerful enough to used with care. and by ‘care’ i don’t mean cynically, for purposes of marketing.
COMPLETLY agree with what Nic said.
ugh. how about black people stop laying claim to the word…how about any fucking group stop laying any fucking claims relative to this because to me that word isn’t even about color! it’s about ignorance. why the fuck does nigga have anything to do w/ being black? people give it relevance and they can take it away. anybody can be a nigga or a nigger.
fuck.
