The Office, also known as one of the best TV shows that ever happened, is currently about to wrap up its sixth season, and Steve Carell’s contract is up after the seventh. And he doesn’t plan on sticking around afterwards.
That first part isn’t that new, but there hasn’t been much word on NBC’s stance. They’ve recently stated that they’re about as happy with the prospect of Carell leaving as I am, which is not at all. Representatives of NBC said “we hope we can keep him around for a long time,” but regardless of Carell’s presence, the show will go on. Writers are already working on possibilities for continuing on without Carell’s character.
I have no idea what would happen to Dunder Mifflin without Michael. Jim would probably take over to get more money for the baby. But then there’s Ryan, who at some point went from being a smarmy douchebag to an adorable hipster/smarmy douchebag. Or maybe Dwight could pull through, though I think he’d be heartbroken at Michael’s departure.
Goddamnit, NBC, you just make me fall in love then you break my heart. If The Office gets cancelled because Steve Carell leaves, I can’t be held responsible for the angry, tear-stained letters that you receive.
The Office hasn’t been remotely funny since the third season, and most shows that drag on for 7+ seasons tends to suck.
whinewhinewhineblahblahblah. The Office was at its best around 2-3 season but since then it has still remained one of the funnier shows on tv. I am curious as to what you’re watching that is so much better, save 30 Rock and the emerging Parks and Rec.
I don’t really watch TV. Used to watch The Office, but then it started to suck (in my opinion), so I stopped. Even if I was an AVID general television viewer, though, I’m sure you’d try to nitpick whatever I might have copped to liking.
By the way (IN MY OPINION) 30 Rock sucks balls, too. :) Never heard of Parks and Rec, though, thanks for the recommendation. :)
looove 30 rock. give it a chance, it grows on u.
i like the office, but i find michael kind of annoying, but idk, maybe it would suck w/o him…
You like the office but not the main character? hmm.
i kind of agree, i like michael but often times his humor is too awkward/painful too watch
You come here often?
they should NOT continue without Steve Carrell. Even though I usually find myself laughing at the other characters rather than him, the show would be losing its heart in a sense. Sadly since The Office is NBC’s thursday night breadwinner this probably won’t matter…
I think they are grooming Daryl for the job. I would totally still watch without Carell, though too. Love love love the other characters. Can’t wait to see Dwight and Angela’s baby. But as much as Michael Scott loves kids I would like to see him as a father before he takes off!
This season has been pretty bad. There were signs last season that it was starting to fall apart, mainly because Jim stopped being funny and Pam became a self-righteous bitch. Then there was hope with Andy and Erin but they tanked that. The addition of Daryl as a major player is forced and not that funny. And the addition of Gabe hasn’t worked well for me, either. Angela is still a bitch. Ryan is even more irritating than he was before and Dwight seems pretty stagnant. I wish they could go back to season 4 when things were still funny.
EXACTLY on all of this!
There have been maybe 3 episodes this season that were actually awesome — and I think they were all either written or directed by the cast. It totally makes sense that those episodes would be good because they have been around so long they know how the characters should be!
Best episode this season was the one John K (Jim) directed. And Mindy Kaling has written & directed 2 other good ones. But that’s it! Total bummer.
the best tv show that ever happened was Arrested Development!!
The best tv show is a closed-circuit feed of your funeral.
what?? I love the office but I had the feeling that it was starting to wrap up with the jim and pam wedding and birth and all. nbc plans on continuing the office for a while?? bad bad idea.
the american version of the office sucks hairy goat balls.
The U.K. version sucks Geo. Washington’s monster Red Coat killing balls.
god you Americans and you’re wanting to keep shows on for well past their ‘best before’ date. I enjoy the show (for the most part) but would be much more upset about never getting new shows either: a)worth watching or worse b)not allowing good prospects to find their feet.
Go blow a Welshman.
You fucking Brits. You can all go to hell. Don’t fuckin’ get me started. The fucking Germans didn’t kill enough of you.
Well if you knew your history you would know they were a little preoccupied with the Jews.
