Ok, I’d like to know what the deal is. What is it that the SAG is asking for that these companies won’t give them? If they (NBC, CBS, etc.) can afford to pay these actors hundreds of thousands and even millions an episode, then I think they could probably afford to pay all the ‘behind the scenes’ folks a little more. Just saying…
The WGA was not protesting because they felt that Jon Stewart had done something wrong. They were protesting the forced return of “The Daily Show” (and a few blocks over, “The Colbert Report”) sans writers.
Jon and Stephen have been nothing but supportive to both their writers and staff and were essentially forced by their corporate leadership to go on air or risk having the entirety of their non-writing staff laid off. The writers still support Jon and Stephen. The writers were not protesting Jon and Stephen, but Viacom and the media moguls. According to the USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2008-01-07-stewart-colbert-return_N.htm), the writers said, “the union’s complaint wasn’t with Stewart or Colbert, but “that Viacom and Comedy Central will not yet make a fair and responsible contract†allowing the hosts “to get back their writers.—
In a nutshell, the WGA simply wants Viacom and the AMPTP to come to a fair agreement with the writers.
Thank you for the picture – excellent scoop!
Fuck all the writers. I can’t watch my fav shows now.
